The Stuff We Are Made of is the second performance in a trilogy, where the aim is to tell different stories that emerge through the performer’s interaction with different materials.
For Rolling Stories, the first piece of the trilogy, we used 8 pearl-coloured latex balls, creating stories about big questions such as fitting in, being a part of a group and trying to keep control. In The Stuff We are Made of the two female performers interact with a 5×5 metres big canvas.
Themes that we touch upon here are different female roles. The heavy canvas magnifies all the different images and visualises the struggle and burden of being draped, veiled and dressed up as different female characters, stereotypes and icons. The different scenes, put together as a fragmented whole, tell stories about the toll of womanhood in general.
