Animals are our teachers. Etienne Decroux
By demonstrating techniques and showing video clips from the Théâtre du Mouvement’s past work, Claire Heggen and Yves Marc show us how animal movement can be a source of inspiration to an actor.
Organic movement (undulation, crystallization), specific dynamics, hypertrophy of the senses, the animal puts us in touch with qualities such as aptness, sparing of energy, adaptability. They bring home the fact that the animal is part and parcel of our own imaginary world, whether we are aware of it or not: basic social patterns, awareness of elements, territorial strategies, courtship displays, mimicking techniques including chimaera and supernatural bestiaries.
By putting into question animal behaviour, Claire Heggen and Yves Marc show us how an actor can improve previously unsuspected skills to help him create a character, to connect with his basic animal qualities when faced with other people and to metaphorically question political behaviour.
